Story Guidelines:
A Lessons from Beyond story is an inspirational, true story about ordinary people doing extraordinary things. It is a story that makes you take inventory of your own life. It is a simple piece that touches the soul of the readers and helps them discover who they are and who they can be. They are personal and often filled with drama and emotion.Lessons from Beyond stories have a beginning, middle and an ending that often closes with an ending that creates emotion. A Lessons from Beyond story causes laughter, makes us cry and/or gives us goose bumps. A good story covers a range of human emotions.
The best stories are about people extending themselves, or performing an act of love, service, contribution or courage.
Tell an exciting, sad or funny story about someone that was in your life that has passed away. Tell us about the character(s).
Remember that a Lessons from Beyond story IS NOT a eulogy.
Story Specifications:
It is preferred that all submissions are sent via our website by clicking here. If you don’t have internet access, please submit your stories preferably typed on plain white 8 1/2” x 11” paper, in 12-point Times New Roman font. If you fax, mail or email us your story please type your name and contact information on the first page of each and every story.Please keep your story under 1500 words
Please no anonymous or author unknown submissions
We do not return submissions, so please don’t send the original.
The only way to receive an acknowledgment of your submission, is by submitting through our website, by clicking here. By submitting through the website, you will be taken to an acknowledgment screen on our website directly after hitting “send”. This screen will inform you that the story has been received. We strongly encourage you to submit your stories online as it is the fastest and easiest way to process and review submissions.
It can take up to a couple of years for a Lessons from Beyond book to be published. Please be patient, as this is an important, part of the process. If your story is chosen for a future edition of Lessons from Beyond or any other project, you will be contacted so that we may interview you for the book.
Please do not send us any book manuscripts, unless through a literary agent, as these will be automatically discarded. Feel free to submit more than one story or recipe.
Recipe Guidelines:
Simply submit your recipe. Make sure to tell us why it’s one of your favorites. Also please tell us about your relationship with the person who passed the recipe to you. Why you were inspired to share this recipe.Poetry Guidelines:
Simply submit your poem. Also please tell us about your relationship with this person who inspired you to write your poem and the lesson or lessons that you learned from this person.
